Ship Repair & Consultancy

A repair ship is a type of navy auxiliary ship used to support warship upkeep. Similar services are provided by repair ships to those of destroyer, submarine, and seaplane tenders or depot ships, although they may have a wider range of repair capabilities, such as staff and equipment for fixing more serious machinery failures or combat damage.

Shipbuilding and ship repair are two completely distinct processes. We shall examine their differences in this section while keeping in mind that both organisations rely on the same talent pool.

Every five years, most working vessels are drydocked for maintenance or a rebuild.

Maintenance

Many repair and maintenance tasks subject personnel to conditions that are inherently dangerous, including working with toxic chemicals, sophisticated machinery, at heights, and in cramped areas. The safety of the ship and its crew is mostly dependent upon the shipyard’s own Safety Management System when in shipyards, whether for repairs or during construction. Additionally, there is frequently intense pressure placed on maintenance specialists to minimise ship downtimes. As a result, trying to meet deadlines while maintaining technical proficiency makes ship repair and maintenance extremely difficult.

Safety

Shipping is perhaps the most international of all the world’s great industries – and one of the most dangerous. It has always been recognized that the best way of improving safety at sea is by developing international regulations that are followed by all shipping nations.

Maritime safety as part of and overlapping with water safety is concerned with the protection of life and property through regulation, management and technology development of all forms of waterborne transportation. The executive institutions are the national and transnational maritime administrations.

Environmental Social & Governance

ESG and decarbonization are receiving more attention in the shipping sector from a variety of stakeholders, including regulators, bankers, and cargo owners. A fact-based, scientific disclosure of your sustainability story is required. The status quo is no longer an option.

DNV offers a wide range of services to serve clients in the areas of environmental, social, and governance (ESG). These include ESG due diligence, the creation of appropriate ESG KPIs and ESG strategies, the design of ESG frameworks, and roadmaps for ways to enhance ESG performance, ESG rating, and ESG reporting.
